Luigi’s Garage
It is not the easiest thing in the world to design a humane space, where you can present home accessories, work in large rooms, have a canteen and at the same time find peace enough to design next season's collections. So in addition to the look (which we come to), the task is just as much about planning where the different types of use should be, so that they do not disturb each other, and at the same time will be able to inspire each other, to create contact and coherence. On top of that, I also wanted the challenge to be solved by a single main feature.
The room got a new light epoxy floor and lots of sound attenuation in the ceiling. Concrete columns and beams were allowed to appear. The kitchen was built of dark and warm wood. Here we meet in all that shininess. Without surface glare and with the opportunity to look each other in the eyes. The design of the room dividers was the main feature. I could not help but think of the gates of an older Italian car mechanic .. maybe Luigi. Gates that are from the time when the first Fiat 500 rolled off the belt in Turin. Large gates that can be slid to the side, and open to reveal shelves, racks and more shelves with all the precious parts and tools. Welcome to By Nord, now… with a touch of Enzo.
