The Hazel Thicket

This is a major remodel of a villa from 1928. There was no big budget, but I could see from the floor plan that one could relatively easy make a big difference. It was first and foremost about creating spaces that made the life, that was to be lived in the house, flow better. Before the rebuild, you entered into a dark hallway. On the right side you had the kitchen, and on the left, the large living room. The decor was a relic from when servants stood in the kitchen and cooking was something that was tucked away. The main feature in the conversion was therefore to overturn the wall at the end of the hallway, and build the kitchen in the large room that lay there. Today, this space has become the heart of the house. It is the meeting point of the family, and it is from here life is pumped out into the rest of the house.

When rebuilding, it is important to renovate in line with the history of the house. The demolition of the wall at the end of the corridor is thus in step with the house's origins from 1928, in which time functionalism is in its infancy.

One of the most important elements of functionalism is that all rooms must be lit from two sides. A hard taks to accomplish, yet with this small intervention, the principle is accommodated.

The kitchen is made with a front frame, as one would have done at the time, and the two bathrooms have also been renovated in a functionalist style.

And of course, it's always about creating a home that brings us closer to nature! The heart of the house, the kitchen, is directly connected to a large terrace, which leads you further down into the garden, and the supply of natural light is also essential. I have this idea that the color green speaks to our primordial brain and reminds us of our origins. You will therefore find the color used throughout the house.
